Things I wish to share!

- Trailer for Prince of Persia

- My thoughts on the above, to Mr. Bruckheimer et al: PLEASE DON'T SUCK. I played the PoP game you based this film on to the point of insanity. My mother got addicted to watching me play and was my loyal backseat driver for a huge chunk of it. This game is my high school years. Looks like you've fed the story some steroids, which is fine, because it looks like you've got the visuals to back it up. So you changed the princess's name for no reason, your "Persian" prince is white like wonderbread and everyone speaks the king's English. You preserved the witty banter and the crazy parkour platforming. JUST PLEASE DON'T SUCK. (Also, did he seriously say "a-sand-ssins"? Say no, Mr. Bruckheimer. Say no.)

Songs!

Muse - Uprising : in my head, this is a fantastic fanvid for Star Trek XI. Who's with me?

Florence and the Machine - Drumming Song : (as I move my feet towards your body/I can hear this beat, it fills my head up/and gets louder and louder)

Florence and the Machine - Hardest of Hearts : (there is love in your body but you can't get it out/it gets stuck in your head, won't come out of your mouth/sticks to your tongue and shows on your face/that the sweetest of words have the bitterest taste)

Finally, a meme!

Pick a pairing from my fandoms (including whatever RP 'verse you care to throw at me), and come up with a location and/or situation, and I will write you between 50 and 250 words about the kiss that happened in that context.

I adored this one when I did it a year ago; gimme prompts, people!

Pea Ess : New favorite song lyric. "I'm tryin' to find the words to describe this girl without being disrespectful."

tori - too far out all my life
In honor of Halloween, I thought I'd share with y'all some music and good old fashioned creepy fanfic recs.

Neko Case - Furnace Room Lullaby : (i twisted you under and under to break you/i just couldn't breathe with your throne on my chest)

People in Planes - Vampire : (who is the spy in your campaign?/is it the wife or is it your advisor?/I wanna suck the blood from their veins)

That Handsome Devil - Viva Discordia : (life, it ain't all roses, though/you go where you're supposed to go/woke up in a mobile home/her kidney sold in Tokyo)

Jen Titus - O Death : (no wealth, no ruin, no silver, no gold/nothing satisfies me but your soul)

Sufjan Stevens - The Seer's Tower : (still I go to the deepest grave/where I go to sleep alone)

The fic recs (which, oddly enough, are all Star Trek reboot)

Name the Stars : a horror-love story

Untitled : a House of Leaves drabble

Divinity Defined by Echo : a longer exploration of the house

And now I'm really tempted to haul my own copy of House of Leaves off the shelf.

Floreeeeence! Why are you so awesome?!

I'd embed this fucker, but they took out the embed code.

I can't even begin to articulate all the things I love about this song, and the video floors me. THE DRUMS. The way the motion just gets more and more frenetic, how she starts dancing with her whole body. Florence just being goddamn gorgeous.

And this may be my new contender for Kite!karaoke, I KNOW I KEEP CHANGING MY MIND BUT GODDAMN FLORENCE TOO AWESOME.

Lyrics are here if you want to take a look.

October 13th, 2009

I have to post this because godDAMN this song snuck up on me tonight and I can't stop listening to it. It's the stuff whitetext is made of and just...Listen to it.

Cake Bake Betty - The Spine Song : (and you're down/for the count/you are dancing with men/going around and around/and you're scared/and you're sure/that your spine will dissolve/you will fall to the floor/you will take/what you need/and the headaches will come/but at least you can breathe)

As I'm moving down my to do list, MUSIC PIMP TIME.

Florence and the Machines - Blinding : flailed about this one a while ago, but here it is for your DLing pleasure. (seems that I have been held, in some dreaming state/a tourist in the waking world, never quite awake)

Bat for Lashes - Use Somebody (Kings of Leon cover) : because I loved the original so much, I thought it couldn't get better. and then there was this.

Delta Goodrem - Mistaken Identity : (I was always walking one step ahead/or so I thought until the monster crawled into my bed/rewind and erase that shocked look on your face/cause your mona lisa is dead)

Missy Higgins - Hold Me Tight : (hold me tight/cause I'm losing all the energy to fight/yeah hold me tight/I've been throwing pointless flares into your night)

The Mountain Goats - Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is In Another Castle : the title alone is amazing, but the song is fantastic. (I kept my hat on just for luck/sang simple tunes the whole night through/I wondered if I'd wake to find myself in flames/as I waited here for you/yeah when you came in/I could breathe again)

Okay, I haven't made one of these mini!posts in a while, but I have to get this out of my system before I crash tonight.

If there ever were a "Kite's evil!karaoke" song more her than Metric's 'Help, I'm Alive,' it would be Florence and the Machine's 'Blinding.' I can't even fully explain what it is about it that's her, except that it is. (Plus, it's just a badass song in its own right.)

Lyrics here and YouTube here.

(no more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world)

Yeah, this is about the level of intelligent commentary you get from me at close to 1:30 AM.

August 24th, 2009

Dump post!

Got the sleeves sewn on my girl!Graverobber coat today. Meant to get the collar on also, but my sewing machine hates the collar for reasons beyond my understanding. Will have to seal it with hand-stitches and will probably save myself a migraine and attach it to the coat the same way. After that, will need to turn the edges and sew in the elastic for the glowsticks. Need to get that knocked out in the next day or so, so I can turn my attention to the phaser holsters.

Also, two more songs!

Florence and the Machine - My Boy Builds Coffins : (My boy builds coffins and I think it's a shame/that when each ones been made, he can't see it again/he crafts every one with love and with care/then it's thrown in the ground, it just isn't fair)

Kathleen Edwards - Sure as Shit : (I sure as shit do love you/and I cuss because I mean it/and for that in my heart I am hopeful/and these words that I chose/I was so careful)

Finally, this plotbunny roared up and bit me yesterday, so I started writing today. I haven't done trippy dreamscape fic in a while, and this one is practically writing itself. You get the first two lines.

She wakes up in Dublin. She wakes up in New Zealand. She wakes up in Georgia.

Her body is in the infirmary and she does not wake up at all.

August 21st, 2009

So I went to one of the Avatar Day screenings today and we burned Aang in effigy and it was epic. It was the footage from Comic Con, so if you read the descriptions of that, you know what I saw, but damn if the 3D doesn't make that movie even mor egorgeous. It took my eyes a minute to adjust, but I remember feeling that way during Beowulf, and this was a waaaay crisper picture.

Space marines! Bio-luminescent life forms! The alien chick I am calling Bluhura! This shit is gonna rock. I can has December now?

Also, tonight I was trying to make my long awaited music pimp, but my upload speed is sucking like a cheap whore. These are the songs I have uploaded for now; will add more as the internets cooperate.

Metric - Blindness : The more I listen to, the more I really adore Metric. (I was the one with the world at my feet/got us a battle, leave it up to me)

The New Pornographers - Adventures in Solitude : (we thought we lost you/welcome back)

Finally, if you've ever read Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, you'll get a kick out of this video game trailer. I know what I'm buying on Tuesday.

Also, now I want to reread Arkham, which this late at night is probably foolish. Wish me luck! :D

EDIT: I totally forgot to mention that today was Employee Appreciation Day and I did not get sunburned! I swam in the lake and went down our epically ghetto water slide and watched all of upper management jump into a mud pit after losing at tug of war. Very Good Day.

EDIT THE SECOND: More songs will go here!

The Dead Weather - So Far From Your Weapon : (there's a bullet in my pocket burning a hole/you're so far from your weapon and you wanna go home...right away from the get go the bullet was cursed/ever since I had you every little thing hurts.)

Sufjan Stevens - Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing : my theme for Firefly!Artemis (and, on occasion, Kite-Rizza. no, I don't get it either.)

Florence and the Machine - Kiss With a Fist : (my black eye casts no shadow/your red eye sees no pain/your slaps don't stick/your kicks don't hit/so we remain the same...a kick in the teeth is good for some/a kiss with a fist is better than none)

So when I was doing the Great Move to the new iPod (her name is Narada, btw; a Classic in black. 120 gigs never looked so good.), I finally got around to ripping The Second Stage Turbine Blade, Coheed and Cambria's first album. And since it's now on my 'recently added' playlist both on the comp and on Narada, I've ended up listening to it a lot.

Holy FUCK, do I love this album.

I think it might be my second favorite by C&C, sliding in right behind In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3.

My favorite three songs (in order of ascending awesomeness) are:

- God Send Conspirator (lyrics and youtube)
- Everything Evil (lyrics and youtube)
- Delirium Trigger (lyrics and youtube)

I included the Youtube links because reading what a Coheed song says and actually listening to it are two very different experiences. One of them is significantly more WTF inducing. Also, do not be alarmed by Claudio Sanchez's hair in the live vid. It is a benevolent being that will not, in fact, eat you.

So yeah, thank you, C&C, for your crazy sci-fi rock opera cunningly disguised as a series of rock albums.

Also, if I playtested an out-of-her-goddamn-mind!Kite, any takers?

Guess what, kids! Music time!

The Airborne Toxic Event - Does This Mean You're Moving On? : my new favorite band! They have this kicky syncopated Fratellis-esque thing that I adore. (from the balcony, you call my name/I see you standing in the rain/your words so dry, your face so wet/said I broke your heart, but it hasn't happened yet)

The Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight : ATE is the master of the screwy relationship song, IMHO. This is my favorite. (and she leaves with someone you don't know/but she makes sure you saw her/she looks right at you and bolts/as she walks out the door/your blood boiling, your stomach in ropes/and when your friends say what is it/you look like you've seen a ghost)

Metric - Help, I'm Alive : (come take my pulse, the pace is on a runaway train/help, I'm alive/my heart keeps beating like a hammer)

The Faint - Take Me to the Hospital : (I scraped up my face/bounced my cheek on the floor/cause anything worth doing/is worth getting hurt for/I've made no mistakes/I'm never learning from that/I got no regrets/I wanna do it again) violencejunkie!Kite's mantra. (Also, I can't listen to this song without getting a weird mental image of her in the back seat of a car a la Mr. Orange at the beginning of Reservoir Dogs, only with less crying and more hysterical laughter. If I could figure out a context, I would write that shit in a heartbeat.)

These are not samples of a playlist, why you ask?

July 2nd, 2009

So I could turn this post into a rant about how upper management at work must come from some crazed hell dimension where annoying your employees to death is the ultimate goal and only my undying love for what we do and the people I work with and days like tomorrow (potluck and time at the gun range) keep me sane, but I won't because that post would be lame.

Thanks to fanmix, I found this badass bad called Boyce Avenue. Apparently before they released their album of original stuff, they did all these acoustic covers.

Wonderwall : the staple for acoustic coverage

Realize : I've got a weakness for this song anyway, but hearing a guy sing it makes me happy.

Iris : the other cover staple, very well done

Tattoo/No One/Where is the Love : mash-up for the win

Bleeding Love : just when this song was starting to drive me crazy, these guys made me love it again

Love in This Club : No, really. An acoustic cover of "Love in This Club." And it rocks.

Also, for the two of you who care, there may be more Kite!fic.

June 19th, 2009

Fight Club is on Spike tonight and I'm taking that as a sign that this weekend will be awesome.

Also, ordered something awesome from the interwebs. There will be pictures when it arrives.

For now, though, this LJ needs some motherfucking music up in here.

Lady Gaga - Love Game : if not for that really traumatizing reference to a "disco stick," this song would be pretty near perfect.

Two Steps From Hell - Freedom Fighters (Choir) : the song from the Star Trek trailer. Chokes me up without fail every time.

The New Pornographers - The Bleeding Heart Show : (I leapt across three or four beds into your arms/where I had hidden myself somewhere in your charm/our golden handshake has been smashed into this shape/it's taken magic to a primitive new place)

3OH!3 - Don't Trust Me : Because some lines never get old like tell your boyfriend, if he says he's got beef, that I'm a vegetarian and I ain't fucking scared of him.

Katy Perry - Waking Up In Vegas : I blame Vegas!plot for getting me hooked on this song. I like to think of it as the hungover aftermath of 'what if they hadn't had to flee from the fuzz.'

Trading Yesterday - She Is The Sunlight : oh god, this is my Kite song. This is it right here. (she lives in a daydream/I don't belong/she is the sunlight/and the sun is gone)

It is entirely possible I may add more later, but these are my most agressive earworms at the moment.

This is a chemical burn. It will hurt more than you have ever been burned and you will have a scar.

kite - freedom to move
You know what would be frosting on this cake of a memorial day weekend? A music pimp post.

Linkin Park - New Divide : the new single for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen that is every bit as much an ear worm as 'What I've Done.' (and the ground caved in/between where we were standing/and your voice was all I heard/that I get what I deserve)

Jay Z vs The Verve - Dirt Off Your Symphony : one of those mashups that shouldn't work half as well as it does.

Katie Gray - Set Free : (and you got style/and you got grace/and you got the means/to leave that place/but you'll never, never make it/and you'll never, never break it)

Schuyler Fisk - Lying to You : (you don't look good in my bed/I'll take back every word I said/you don't know me like you think you do)

Mike Doughty - Sunkeneyed Girl : my unexpected but loved Kite-McCoy anthem. (you are the drinks i drink and keep drinking and fall down stumble/all of the things i think and keep thinking and lie down tremble...i'm no prize for you/no trophy too)

Also, to waltz!Rog, still working on Kite vs the Enterprise and this should not work either, but I love it so. Pea Ess - Don't know if LJ has been playing havoc with your notifs *eyes it threateningly* but tag to you in wounded!Kite-McCoy, if you're still up for continuing.

Hokay, so. Since I've got a steadily growing list of Twitters I follow (and why did no one tell me Trent Reznor twitters?!?!), and a cell phone that would let me post to it, I think I'm succumbing to the lure. But this means I need a username. And since I really don't use the poll function enough:

On the cosplay front, tested my makeup and got my wig in shape this weekend. Now I just need to start with the sewing in the coming days and I'll feel like I'm on schedule for ACen.

Music added!

Lily Allen - Womanizer : yes, the Britney Spears song. Yes, you should listen to it anyway.

Fall Out Boy - Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet : normally, while I like FOB songs, I'm not hooked. This one has me hooked. Pretty sure I killed my iPod battery at work today rewinding to listen to it again.

Ludo - The Horror of Our Love : just when I think Ludo couldn't write a creepier song that I love more, they surprise me.

Ida Maria - Oh my God : that damn catchy song from the Gossip Girl commercials.

Travis - Hit Me Baby One More Time : because Britney Spears covers are done by the rockin'est people, this one featured in an episode of Life.

I am so damn tired, but I have to share this song.

It's become my theme for the latest round of Mary Anne-Ramon unfun hijinks (warning for violence).

I always thought "White Wedding" was a catchy song but this cover is so deliciously melancholy that it's like a whole different piece of music. Give it a listen; you won't regret it.

And now, I need to sleep. Damn you, 8 AM meetings.

December 9th, 2008

Because this is what I do at 2:30 in the morning, MEME TIME!

First
Okay, I was totally going to do that "first line from your first post each month this year," and then I realized that my first lines of posts tend to be really short and samey, so tossed that one out on its ear.

Instead, due to the constant need to amuse myself, you get this one: Five times [character] [situation] *and one time they didn't

Fandoms should be pretty well known to y'all, and anyone I RP is also totally a fandom.

Second, Music!

includes songs by The Mountain Goats, Alanis, Zombina, and Panic Factorial at the Disco )

Lastly, nothing's as awesome as a party you're late to, by which I mean: Holiday Love Meme.

I think I'm going to read some more of a book I picked up at random in the library, but am quickly falling for. The language, it's...it's how I love to write, but never thought could be sustained for a whole novel. Looks like Mr. Carrella may have found a away.

He waits. Maybe he's praying but she cannot see his mouth. He's on his way, then, she thinks. When he returns in the morning he will have eclipsed her in his spirit.

Okay. So. My comment notifications are still mostly fucked (THANK YOU, LJ) and I suspect I'll wake up tomorrow morning to an inbox full of notifications that are all out of order and mostly no longer relevant. Joy.

In the spirit of good will, I give you three songs.

Sufjan Stevens - John Wayne Gacy Jr. : also entitled 'the song I probably shouldn't like as much as I do since it's all about a serial killer.'

Shirley Manson - Samson and Delilah : a strange, slinky song by the lead singer of Garbage. There's just something about it that I find fantastic, not the least of which is the last set of lines about the bees making honey in the lion's head. (Dark Tower folken--Fair Day riddlers, in particular--will know what I mean.)

The Hush Sound - You Are the Moon : this is the song I want someone to sing to Artemis (and not just because of the title); that's the only way I know how to describe it. (Lyrics here.)

And with that, I'm going to bed. Feel free to play the fun new game where you comment and SEE IF LJ TELLS ME YOU DID!

November 3rd, 2008

First, AMANDA FUCKING PALMER. Her solo album is fanfuckingtastic and I think it may become one of those cds I just keep perpetually in my car. (The other two are The Killers' "Sam's Town" and the PotC: At World's End OST.)

Second, inspired by an earlier cranky mood and reading too much "Chainsaw fucks up Jazz"!plot-threads, I may have a bitchy!Doll-Nita drabblet plotbunny rocking in my brain. SOMEONE ENABLE ME.

Third, music!

Paramore - Decode : yes, it's the song they did for the Twilight movie, but it's also goddamn Paramore. Catchy as hell and fun to rock out to in the car.

The Decemberists - Shankill Butchers : Just when I think I'm not as into the Decemberists, I find another song that makes me snuggle up to them all over again. (they used to be just like me and you/they used to be sweet little boys/but something went horribly askew/now killing is their only source of joy)

Cassie Franklin - Lady Margret : yet another jewel plucked from a random fanmix. It's got a folksong-y feel (no surprise that it originally came from the Cold Mountain OST) but deliciously eerie lyrics. (he asked "Is Lady Margret in her room? Or is she out in the hall?"/but Lady Margret lay in a cold, black coffin with her face turned to the wall.)

Jace Everett - Bad Things : aka "the True Blood theme song." It may also be my own personal "Downside sexy tiems song."

There will probably also be highlights from the Amanda Palmer album at a later date. Time for me to go catch up on that plotbunny tags.

EDIT: As if you haven't heard it from everybody else already, VOTE TOMORROW!

Things acquired recently:

- Red Dragon on DVD (for great Edward Norton justice)
- Doom on DVD (for great drinking games)
- A Lion Among Men

Also, more songs! (Asking what they remind me of at this point would be redundant.)

Kosheen - Guilty : a fun, slinky song I picked up off a random fan mix and fell in love with. (once upon a time/a spider ate a fly/she almost lost her web/whilst biting off his head)

Alanis Morissette - Versions of Violence : can't pick an exact portion of the lyrics to speak for me on this one, it's more the feel of the song over all.

There may be substance at some point, but until then, there will be fluff.

October 12th, 2008

Two things:

1) I wrote my d!oom.

2) I may have gone on a Hush Sound downloading binge this afternoon. *shifty eyes* So naturally, I have to share. All of the following are by The Hush Sound.

The Boys are Too Refined : a couple of their songs remind me of Downside, but this was the first to jump out at me. (and if the timing is right/to sneak off into the night/I'll let myself be taken/just for the thrill/and if I'm given the chance/to be a doll in his hands)

Hospital Bed Crawl : The other Downside song. (in an alleyway way downtown/there's a lurker making rounds/keeping track and keeping tabs on you/and he likes the taste of blood/and he loves the way you love/and that's just what he wants from you...Well, hey, you're the only thing/I wouldn't change/In this place)

Unsafe Safe : I think I found my Artemis karaoke song. (no, you won’t disarm my heart)

Hurricane : Not quite sure who this one reminds me of yet, but love this one too.

And now back to catching up on tags.
